2007 Poster Session

Third UVa School of Medicine Medical Education Research Poster Session

February 2007

The Education Research Subcommittee of the Academy of Distinguished Educators (ADE) held the third Medical Education Research Poster Session at the University of Virginia School of Medicine on February 12-16, 2007, in front of the Health Sciences Library.   Twenty-three abstracts were submitted; after peer review of the abstracts, it was decided to accept all of them for presentation.  There were 12 abstracts on research related to undergraduate medical education (UME), 9 abstracts on research related to graduate medical education (GME), 2 abstracts related to continuing medical education (CME) and 1 abstract related to the Academy of Distinguished Educators (ADE).  Two of the abstracts described results from medical education research projects that had been funded by ADE medical education research grants and two other abstracts described work funded by the AInnovations in GME@ grant award program.

The Poster Session was kicked off by a reception on Monday evening, February 12, 2007, from 5:00-7:00 PM in the Claude Moore Health Science Library.  Dean Garson gave remarks about medical education research at UVa and the Medical Education Research Institute (MERI) which is in the planning stages.

The goals of the reception and the poster session were to highlight the medical education research currently being conducted at the School of Medicine and to increase interest in medical education research among the faculty by illustrating examples of good medical education research, by publicizing the Faculty Development Sessions dealing with medical education research in preparation for the 4th round of ADE medical education research grants (due date for proposals is May 7, 2007).

The poster session and reception were organized by Bob Bloodgood and Jim Martindale on behalf of the Academy of Distinguished Educators, with assistance from Elizabeth Graham, Gretchen Arnold and Wilma Lynch.
